Every year The Guardian Sustainable Business Awards highlight leadership in the field of sustainable business and encourage organisations to share best practice in the field of sustainability.
Veja, recognised by the judges as “positively disruptive of the traditional status quo”, has been awarded in the supply chain category for the fair trade sourcing of its ecological materials (organic cotton, wild rubber from the Amazon and vegetable-tanned leather), its implication on the ground and the long term relationship built with small Brazilian producers.
“Veja was congratulated for pushing the boundaries in their sector and for ensuring that sustainability was embedded in every part of its supply process. Unlike competitors, Veja refuses to pursue low prices at the expense of worker’s rights”, said Jo Confino, executive editor at The Guardian.
